UniKL scored a last gasp equaliser to hold Tenaga Nasional Berhad to a 3-3 draw at the National Hockey Stadium.
But in reality it was not a point won but rather two wasted for UniKL as they held a 2-0 lead at one stage of the match, only to collapse towards the closing stages, as they did in their 2-1 loss at the hands of Sapura on Friday.
However it was poetic justice as they scored the equaliser at the end of regulation time and must surely be more then happy to have salvaged something from a match that they should have won.
"It was a match that we shuld have won but inexperience let us down. But on the overall I am happy with the spirit shown by my players. They did not give up until the final whistle," said uniKL manager Amir Azhar Ibrahim.
"We let in soft goals and need to work towards tightening our defence. Getting them to play consistently throughout the match seems to be our biggest challenge but given the fact that they are showing marked improvement in every match is a positive sign.
"I rather look at it as a point gained then two lost as we were not given much of a chance before the match. And my players raise their game to match one of the favourites."
TNB were awarded a penalty corner in the 4th minute, but Mohd Amin Rahim's attempt was well parried away by UniKL keeper Abdul Hakim Adnan.
And UniKL were then awarded three consecutive penalty corners. Off the third, Muhammad Noor Faeez Ibrahim made it count as his low flick caught TNB keeper S. Kumar flatfooted and UniKL were in the lead in the 9th minute.
TNB were shocked but they fell further behind in the 25th minute when Mohd Hafiz Zainal scored from a melee.
However in the very next minute TNB pulled a goal back as they were awarded a penalty stroke by umpire Ravinderpal Singh. Amin stepped up to put the ball past Hakim and reduced the deficit to 2-1.
Though TNB were awarded penalty corers in the 31st and 33rd minute, Faisal Saari failed from both attempts.
It was all TNB in the second half as they piled the pressure on the UniKL side. Amd the breakthrough came in the 48th minute when Faisal scored to make it 2-2.
And Faisal scored what lloked like the winner two minutes from time. But Faeez scored his second to make it 3-3 in the 70th minute.
Meanwhile on the adjacent pitch Nur Insafi registered their second win when they edged Uitm 2-1.
Mohammad Harris Fadila Zulkafli scored in the 16th and 62nd minutes to give the Penang team a 2-0 lead. Though Mohd Alfifi Arsad reduced the deficit in the 66th minute, time ran out for the university side.
