UniKL twice took the lead against Maybank but failed to collect all three points as their former player Mohd Zulhairi Hashim scored a brace for Maybank in the TNB Malaysian Hockey League match at the National Hockey Stadium Pitch Two this evening.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw and although UniKL were awarded a penalty stroke in the 65th minute but Dedy Ariyadi Jumaidi sent his flick out thus missing a golden chance to give UniKL all three points.
And on the adjacent pitch, Faisal Saari scored his second hattrick of the tournament as Tenaga Nasional Berhad trashed Uitm 6-0.
Maybank were the early aggressors and piled on the pressure on the UniKL defence, using their physical strength to their advantage. However the UniKL defence held firm and in the 28th minute they struck off their first penalty corner.
The attempt by Muhd Noor Faeez Ibrahim was saved by the Maybank keeper Mohd Hafizuddin Othman but the rebound fell to Muhammad Hafiz Zainol who had the presence of the mind to square the ball to Muhammad Izad Hakimi Jamaluddin who put the ball in past the hapless Hafizuddin.
But Maybank hit back two minutes later as former UniKL player Mohd Zulhairi Hashim converted a penalty corner to put his team on level terms.
UniKL opted to take the match to Maybank in the second half, discarding their defensive stand as they attacked using the width of the pitch. And though they came close on two occassions, Hafizuddin denied them the lead.
However UniKL were not to be denied and took the lead once again as Izad took a direct hit off a penalty corner in the 45th minute and it sailed sweetly into goal.
Maybank upped the tempo and were awarded a penalty corner in the 62nd minute which Zulhairi duly converted.
TNB opened scoring in the 20th minute via Muhammad Firhan Ashaari. And after that Faisal Saari scored twice, in the 24th and 30th minutes to give TNB a comfortable 3-0 lead going into halftime.
They increased the lead to 4-0 as Mohd Sallehin Abdul Ghani scored from a penalty corner. Fairuz Ramli made it 5-0 in the 47th minute before Faisal completed his hattrick, scoring in the 62nd minute.
