Defending champions KL Hockey Club went on a goal scoring spree, routing Armed Forces Airod 9-3 while Sapura were equally impressive registering a 7-1 win over Nur Insafi at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
The win was KLHC's five on the trot while Sapura kept up their challenge on the table toppers with their fourth consecutive win. And on Sunday Sapura can go level on points with KLHC as they play Uitm.
KLHC were 4-0 up in the first ten minutes of the match. Ahmad Kazamirul Nasruddin opened scoring via a penalty corner in the 3rd minute and the floodgates opened.
Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin (5th and 9th minutea) and Chua Boon Huat (7th minute) increased the lead to 4-0 and from then on it was a question of just who and how many KLHC would score in the match.
Kevinder Singh made it 5-0 in the 11th minute as Ahmad Anuar Sham Kamal got into the scoring act in the 16th minute to make it 6-0. Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin then added two quick gols, in the 24th and 29th minutes to complete his hattrick and KLHC were up 8-0.
ATM Airod scored off their first penalty corner in the 33rd minute via Razali Mohd Hazemi to break the duck as the teams trooped off at halftime with KLHC 8-1 ahead.
KLHC took their foot off the pedal in the second half, adding a solitary goal through Harvinder Singh while ATM scored their second goal via Mohd Zulfadli M. Rosley in the 43rd minute.
Mohd Shukri Mutalib deflected a cross by Mohd Shahrul Amran into his own goal to end the match with a 9-3 scoreline.
Sapura took the lead in the 23rd minute through Muhammad Izzat Mohd Rahim. But the lead only last three minutes as Nur Insafi were awarded a penalty corner which saw Nur Hrsikesa Thaicana Muruthi scoring to level the scores.
But Sapura went ahead in the 38th minute through Jiwa Mohan. And he added his teams third in the 52nd minute.
With the fight snuffed out of Nur Insafi, Sapura added to their advantage through goals from Izwan Firdaus Ahmad Tajuddin ( 54th and 56th minutes) and Muhammad Marhan Mohd Jali (63rd minutes).
Azreen Rizal Nasir was on hand to score Sapura's seventh in the 69th minute.
