Sapura had beaten UniKL in the first round match In Kuantan last week and were favoured to win this time around as well. But the youngsters from UniKL were undeterred by reputations and ran Sapura to the ground with their superior fitness.
UniKL took the lead in the 21st minute through Mohd Noor Faeez Ibrahim when he converted a penalty corner. It was his eight goal of the MHL, with seven from penalty corners and another from a penalty stroke.
Taufik Abdul Hamid put UniKL 2-0 ahead in the 59th minute after being put through S. Selvarajoo. But Sapura reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute when Faridzul Afiq Mohamad scored from apenalty corner.
" If we can play like this all the time, then I am confident we can make the last eight. It is this kind of spirit that I seek from the players and I am glad that they delivered under pressure," said UniKL coach Arul Selvaraj.
