A total of 10 teams have confirmed their entries for a revamped Division One of the Malaysian Hockey League while nine teams signed up for the inaugural womens hockey league.
Both the tournaments will get underway on March 16 and the finals are expected to be played on May 18. The MHC Competitions Committee will meet on Sunday to decide the format of the competition.
Eight teams.that are signed up so far for the womens league are Terengganu, UiTM Lions, SSN Selangor, MSN Kedah, Armed Forces, Sukma KL, SSTMI and MBJB while PDRM are a tentative entry as they await approval for their top authorities to play as most players are undergoing training in colleges.
As for the men, the teams are UiTM Lions, Bukit Jalil Sports School, Armed Forces, Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail, UniKL, Nur Insafi, Terengganu, Sapura Hockey Club, Tenaga Nasional, Sukma Selangor.
This is an increase from last year as there were only seven teams. Those failing to sign up are MBI, Uniten and Sunday 2030.
Teams that played in the Premier League that have also decided to play in Division One where national players are barred are UniKL, Sapura and Nur Insafi.
As for the women's league each team while allowed to register any number of national players, but only five can play at any given time.
