UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOJI MARA (UiTM) secured the division one title of the TNB Malaysia Hockey League in thrilling fashion as they defeated TNB Thunderbolts 5-4 in the decider today.
UiTM who had a two point (28points) advantage at the top of the table over closest rivals Thunderbolts (26 points)only needed a draw to be crowned as champions but they never looked to take things easy as they went all out for the win. UiTM who last picked up the division one title back in 2009 were by far the better team of the evening and were well deserved winners.
Maybank lifted their game at the right time to inflict a 4-2 defeat over Sapura that gave them the vital three points to snatch the TNBMHL Premier Division runner up spot at the National Hockey Stadium.

It was a tremendous achievement by Maybank given the fact that the last time they achieved success by winning was in 1994 when they won the league and overall titles while in 1995 Maybank were the league champions.
They were however league runner-up in 1999, a good 14 years ago.
Maybank blew their chance to claim second spot in the TNB Malaysian Hockey League when they were beaten 4-3 by Terengganu HT at the National Hockey Stadium.
And on the adjacent pitch TNB Thunderbolts defeated Bukit Jalil Sports School 5-0 to set up a title showdown against Uitm for the Division One League title on Saturday.
